Inventio for iPad
Help / Getting started
Inventio is an iPad app holding one edition: Johann Sebastian Bach's fifteen Two-Part Inventions, BWV 772-786, with an introduction. The music is inside the app. Inventio has no account and no sign-in, and it works with the network off.
Reading
A new install opens on the cover. Swipe left and right to turn pages.
The controls sit at the top right of the page:
The contents button opens a full-screen list of the cover, the introduction, and the fifteen inventions, with their opening music. Tap a title to go to it, or Done to return to your current page.
The notation size button offers three sizes: Standard, Large Print, and Very Large Print.
The clock button opens your practice history.
Tap once on the page to hide the controls while practicing, and tap again to restore them. Swiping still turns pages while the controls are hidden. The controls stay available when VoiceOver is on.
To change the size of the notation, select a size with the notation size button, or pinch the page to preview a size of your own and double-tap to accept it. The size applies to every invention. The music is set again at the new size, so the number of pages changes. Turning the iPad sets the music again for the new shape of the page.
Inventio remembers the page you were on and the notation size, and opens there next time.
Practice history
Inventio notes the time you spend with each invention. A visit of ten seconds or more to an invention's pages is kept as a session, with its date and length. The clock button lists the sessions, most recent first.
What Inventio keeps, and where
Inventio makes no network requests and sends nothing to Kreisleriana or to anyone else. It keeps your practice history, your reading position, and your notation size in the app's own storage on your iPad.
Deleting the app removes everything it has kept. If you back up your iPad with iCloud or a computer, the backup Apple makes can include the app's data.
The privacy policy has a section on Inventio.
